Rats and mice can contaminate food, damage materials and use hidden parts of a building. J Alvey Pest Control provides professional rodent investigation and treatment for homes across our North West operating area. We are a family-run, BPCA member business established in 1979.
Rat or mouse?
The species matters because rats and mice behave differently and use different routes. Rats are often associated with larger droppings, burrows and activity around gardens, drains, bins and outbuildings. Mice can enter through much smaller gaps and are frequently found behind kitchen units, in cupboards, lofts and wall or floor voids.
Use our rat-or-mouse identification guide for an initial comparison, then read the more detailed rat-control or mouse-control page. If you are still unsure, the same domestic rodent booking option covers both.
How treatment works
We inspect the affected areas and look for evidence, food sources, harbourage, routes and possible entry points. Depending on the property, treatment may use professional baiting, traps or a combination of methods. We also explain practical prevention and proofing measures where relevant.
Domestic rodent work is usually resolved over two or three visits. Follow-up allows us to check activity and adjust the treatment. Proofing or building repairs are not automatically included in the visit price; we will make the scope clear rather than offering an open-ended guarantee before the property has been assessed.
Preparation and safety
Make affected cupboards, loft hatches, garages, sheds or garden areas accessible where it is safe to do so. Store exposed food, tell us about children and pets, and do not touch droppings with bare hands. Once equipment has been placed, do not move traps or bait stations. Follow the instructions supplied at the property and read our rodent-treatment safety information.
Price and booking
The current domestic rodent service is £65 per visit and usually requires two to three visits. Include the activity location, access notes and any previous treatment. Appointment requests are checked against the address and route before confirmation.
Rodent-control FAQs
Does the visit include sealing every hole?
No. We provide practical proofing advice and will make clear whether any repair or additional work falls outside the treatment visit.
Can you help with activity in a garden or outbuilding?
Yes. Tell us the exact location and any food, shelter or access factors that may be relevant.
What if the noise is caused by a squirrel?
Heavier loft or roof activity may need our grey squirrel investigation. Contact us if the species is uncertain.
