Mouse Control

Mice are easy to miss at first. They often remain behind kitchen units, inside cupboards, in lofts or within wall and floor voids, while the droppings and damage appear somewhere else. J Alvey Pest Control investigates and treats domestic mouse problems throughout our North West operating area. Our family business was established in 1979 and is BPCA accredited.

Common signs of mice

Look for small droppings in cupboards, under sinks or around stored food; gnawed packets or materials; nesting material; and scratching or light scampering sounds, especially when the house is quiet. A sighting in daylight can be useful information, but it does not by itself show the size of the problem.

Make a note of the rooms affected and when you last saw or heard activity. If you can safely take a photograph of droppings or damage without handling it, that may also help. Our rodent identification tool can provide an initial guide, but the visit is where we assess the property properly.

What happens during treatment

We inspect the activity areas and consider likely routes, food sources and entry points. Depending on the property, treatment may involve traps, professional baiting or a combination of methods. We will explain any practical housekeeping or proofing measures that may reduce access and make the treatment more effective.

Domestic rodent work is usually resolved in two to three visits. Follow-ups allow us to check whether activity has changed and adjust the approach. Because mice can use hidden parts of a building, it is better to base the plan on what we find than to promise a one-visit result before inspection.

Preparation and safety

Please make the affected cupboards, kitchen edges, loft hatch or other relevant areas accessible where possible. Store open food securely and let us know about children, pets or vulnerable occupants. Do not touch droppings with bare hands, and do not move treatment equipment after it has been placed. Follow the instructions left at the property and see our pest treatment safety information.

Price and booking

The domestic rodent service is currently £65 per visit and usually takes two to three visits. Rats and mice use the same Square booking option. Your requested time is reviewed against the route before it is confirmed, so include the affected rooms, access notes and any times when the property cannot be entered.

Mouse control FAQs

Does one mouse mean there are more?

A single sighting cannot tell us how many mice are present. Droppings, feeding signs, routes and follow-up activity give a better picture, which is why we investigate before drawing conclusions.

Can you help if the noise is in a loft or wall?

Yes. Tell us where the sound is strongest and when it occurs. Safe access to the loft hatch or adjacent rooms will help us assess it.

Do you also treat rats?

Yes. See our separate rat control page, or request the domestic rodent service if you are unsure which species is present.
