“Beetle” covers many different insects, so correct identification matters before treatment begins. A beetle found at a window may not need the same response as repeated larvae, shed skins or damage in a cupboard, carpeted room or stored material. J Alvey Pest Control provides beetle treatment for domestic properties and small premises across our North West operating area. Our family-run business has worked in pest control since 1979 and is BPCA accredited.
Signs that need a closer look
Contact us when beetles or larvae keep appearing in the same area, or when you notice shed skins, holes, damaged natural-fibre material or activity around stored products. A single insect does not always establish an infestation. Note the room, surface or item where it was found and whether the activity is repeated.
If possible, keep a specimen in a secure clear container or take a sharp photograph without handling it directly. Do not apply several different DIY products before identification, as this can make the pattern harder to assess and may not reach the source.
How beetle control works
We inspect the affected room or area and consider the likely source. The treatment plan depends on the species, the material involved and whether activity is localised or spread across several spaces. It may combine removal of affected material, practical housekeeping advice and a professional insecticide applied to suitable areas.
We will explain which rooms or items form part of the visit and whether follow-up is appropriate. Beetle treatment is not a substitute for structural timber advice where the evidence points to a separate building issue; we will keep the scope clear rather than treating every hole or mark as the same pest.
Preparation and safety
Make the affected cupboards, floor edges, storage spaces or other relevant areas accessible. Do not throw away every item before we have seen the pattern unless it is clearly contaminated and must be contained. Tell us about children, pets, vulnerable occupants and sensitive contents. Residents and pets may need to remain out of treated areas until the product is dry, depending on the plan. Follow the instructions given at the visit and read our pest treatment safety information.
Price and booking
The current Square price for a beetle treatment visit to a domestic property or small premises is £75. Please name the affected room or area and add useful access details. If the description suggests a different service or a wider scope, we will discuss that before attendance. Appointment requests are reviewed against the route before confirmation.
Beetle control FAQs
Can you treat any type of beetle?
The first step is identification. We will advise whether our beetle treatment is suitable for the insect and material involved rather than claiming that one method covers every species.
Should I remove affected belongings?
Keep them contained and tell us where they were found. We can then explain what should be cleaned, discarded or left in place for the chosen treatment.
Could the insect be a silverfish?
Silverfish have their own room-based service. See our silverfish treatment page or send a description before booking.
