Pest activity at a school or education site needs a measured response that considers pupils, staff, visitors, food areas, buildings and grounds. J Alvey Pest Control provides reactive treatment and planned pest-management support for schools, nurseries and academies across our North West operating area. Our family-run business has worked in pest control since 1979 and is a BPCA member.
When to request a visit
Contact us when staff find droppings, gnawing, damaged materials, repeated insects, a wasp nest or another clear sign of activity. Reports from kitchens, classrooms, stores, roof spaces, bins, play areas and grounds should be recorded with the time and exact location. Early information allows us to plan access and choose an attendance that fits the situation.
For an urgent active issue, keep pupils and staff away from the immediate area using the school’s own procedures. Do not disturb a nest, move suspected bait or attempt to open an unsafe roof or wall space.
How school pest control works
We inspect the relevant area, identify the evidence where possible and agree a proportionate response. Work may include targeted treatment, monitoring, practical prevention advice and follow-up. For planned Priority Prevention, we can discuss scheduled inspections and reporting suited to the site’s needs rather than waiting for a pest to be seen.
As a BPCA member, our commercial service follows industry codes of best practice. Treatment work uses risk and COSHH assessments to help protect staff, customers and members of the public. We will explain the precautions and access controls required for each instruction. We do not claim that one standard treatment or visit is suitable for every school site.
Planning access and safety
Nominate a site contact who can describe the activity and arrange access to affected rooms, kitchens, stores, bin areas, grounds or roof spaces. Tell us about occupied periods, locked areas, contractor induction, sensitive pupils and any restriction on when a treatment can take place. Staff should not move traps, bait stations or monitoring equipment. The instructions supplied for the visit take priority over general advice on our treatment safety page.
Pricing and booking
School work is priced according to the pest, site, access, timing and whether the instruction is a one-off visit or an ongoing programme. Wasp nest and flea services are available, but domestic online prices do not automatically apply to a school or commercial site. Contact us with the site details so we can confirm the correct service and price before attendance.
School pest-control FAQs
Can work be planned around site access?
Tell us the occupied periods and restrictions when requesting the visit. We will review the instruction and route before confirming an appointment rather than assuming unrestricted access.
Do you offer regular inspections?
Yes. Schools can ask about scheduled Priority Prevention inspections, monitoring and reporting. The proposed frequency depends on the site and risks.
Can you treat outdoor pests and wasp nests?
We provide a range of commercial and outdoor pest-control services. Give us the exact location, approximate height and access details so we can assess the request safely.
