Bee Removal and Advice

Seeing bees around a roof, wall, bird box or garden does not always mean that control is needed. Some nests can be left alone if they are out of the way, while a swarm or a nest close to people, pets or customers may need prompt advice. J Alvey Pest Control helps identify the situation and provides removal or treatment where it is appropriate across our North West operating area. We are a family-run, BPCA-accredited business established in 1979.

When to ask for bee advice

Contact us if there is a concentrated stream of bees entering one point, a visible swarm, or activity in a place where people could disturb it. Tell us whether the bees are using a bird box, soffit, cavity, roof edge, tree or another location, and whether the entrance can be reached safely. Do not climb or open the structure to investigate.

Bee and wasp activity can be confused from a distance. A clear description, the approximate height and a photograph taken safely from ground level can help us decide which service is likely to be suitable.

Advice before intervention

Tree bees are often most noticeable in warm weather and can nest in bird boxes, soffits, cavity walls and under roof tiles. Their mating activity around an entrance can look alarming, but a nest that is not causing a practical problem may be best left for the summer. We will not recommend intervention simply because bees are present.

Where removal or treatment is appropriate, the method depends on the species, nest position and access. We will explain what can be done and what activity to expect afterwards. This page covers general bee removal and advice; our existing tree bee page gives more detail about that particular service.

Preparation and safety

Keep people and pets away from the immediate flight path and do not block the entrance before the visit. Do not spray the nest, strike the structure or attempt access at height. Tell us about known sting allergies, difficult access and any work taking place nearby. Follow any aftercare given for the chosen treatment. If the insects appear to be wasps, use our wasp nest removal page instead.

Price and booking

The current Square bee-removal visit is listed at £125. Suitability and final scope depend on identification, access and nest location, so include those details with the request. Online appointment times are reviewed against the route before confirmation. If you only need identification advice, contact us before booking a removal visit.

Bee removal FAQs

Does every bee nest need removing?

No. Where the nest is out of the way and can safely be left alone, that may be the best advice. We consider the location and risk before recommending work.

Can you identify bees from a photograph?

A clear image and location details can help, but they may not provide a certain identification. We will explain if an on-site assessment is needed.

What if they are wasps?

Wasps have a separate seasonal treatment and booking option. Use the wasp service page or contact us if you are unsure.
